The PPI-R was used to assess the psychopathy, which is a 154-item self-report measure. Comparison between psychopathic group and non-psychopathic group was carried out by content scales, validity scales, and 2-factor scales of PPI-R scores.

Results: Thirty one of 214 participants(14.5%) were classified as psychopaths. And there were no significant differences in the age, the age of onset, and the education year between psychopathic group and non-psychopathic group. In the age of crime, psychopathic group committed the crime older than non-psychopathic group. In PPI-R total score, psychopathic group got higher scores. Except stress immunity scale, psychopathic group got higher scores in PPI-R content scales than non-psychopathic group. Psychopathic group showed higher scores in Deviant Responding than non-psychopathic group. In 2-factor scales, psychopathic group got higher scores in both self-centered impulsivity and fearless dominance scales than non-psychopathic group.

Conclusion: In this study, we investigated the prevalence of psychopathic personality and characteristics of psychopathic group in criminal offenders with schizophrenia. We hope the PPI-R could be used in criminal offenders with schizophrenia as a tool for assessing the psychopathic personality. Future research should include the studies of criminal and clinical characteristics of large and various samples, using the Psychopathy Check List- Revised to ascertain the prevalence of psychopathic personality.
